Samsung Galaxy Tab P1010

Tablet PC Price: Rs 13999

The Samsung Galaxy Tab P1010 is an iPad look alike but in a smaller, lighter, easy to handle, form factor. Though not the best in all departments, it is certainly a path-breaker. The front display has a black bezel while the back is glossy white. The front has four touch buttons, the volume and headphone jack sit at the top and the power button as well as the microSD card are placed at the right edge. The overall appearance is smooth and comfortable to hold.

Samsung Galaxy Tab – Short Review

Display is bright and crisp, with adjustable options. A plus is that it has a wide viewing angle. Extremely responsive, you can scroll pages with light flicks and select with only light taps. The accelerometer works as it should. A high resolution ensures sharp and crisp text in web browsers, even with small fonts.

Audio level, but not quality, is high enough and clear. Similarly, the camera delivers satisfactory but not outstanding results in still images and video.

There is no 3G Sim slot on this tablet. Accessing the internet have only the WiFi option

The keyboard comes across as reasonable, nothing much to get excited about with the display size imposing its limitation. However, you can tap the keys easily in the landscape position or use your thumb in the portrait orientation without too much trouble. Just right for occasional, not heavy, use.

What the Tab can rightly claim is smooth and fast performance, even when multitasking. It does have a hiccup with Flash but that is a minor niggle you can live with. The Tab handles videos and games with intensive graphics with ease, the 1 GHz processor matched with the OS, and tweaked by Samsung to a certain extent.

Battery performance receives a high rating with 6 hours of video playback.

In conclusion, while it may not match up to the iPad and its access to apps for the tablet form factor, it is unarguably the best-designed Android Froyo based 7 inch tablet in the market. Some will prefer the Samsung Galaxy Tab P1010 over the Apple iOS based iPad2 for its smaller, more portable, easy to handle form factor and most importantly it’s price. The Android Market should come up with apps for the 7-inch tablets in the near future and further improve its functionality. Android 2.2 is not the perfect OS for 7-inch tablets and this compromise works against the Tab P1010.
